Teacher Info!

Information about me that might be useful.

Parents

We are a team. We can work together to give your child the best education possible.

Here are my priorities in regards to teaching - please let me know how you feel about these:

  • Learning to read - without being able to read - other learning becomes harder.
  • Math is an important part of everyday activities. Your child should know basic math facts.
  • Social skills allow your child to live in the complex world today. Learning to share and work well with others is important.

Volunteer at School

Would you like to volunteer some of you free time to the class? I would love to have you come in and assist the class anytime - if you are interested, let me know!

Helping at Home

How you can help your child learn at home? Read every day to your child. Have your child read to you.

  • Make reading an important part of your child's life. Have them read menus, grocery lists, roads signs, game directions, the comics, or movie time listings.
  • Choose material - books, magazines, comics - based on topics your child finds interesting. Ask your child questions about what has just been read. (The Who, What, Where, When and Why of a story.)

When helping your child read at home, several strategies may be used to aid in decoding unknown words.

Practice math facts

  • Spend time every night working on math facts.
  • Use flashcards

Ask your child what they did at school today

  • Spend some time asking your child what they did at school.
  • Have your child tell you about the reading of the day.
